List Building Tips: 7 Steps to Profitable List Marketing

I’ve heard the money is in the list so often I sometimes hear it in my sleep. List building is a never ending process but once you have a list the real trick is how to use it effectively to make money with email marketing and keep the subscribers. Here the 7 steps to successful opt-in email marketing

Use a Personal Touch
This is a no brainier but often overlooked. Use the subscriber name in the subject and in the email body. A persons name in the subject make the message more personal but if you’re mailing your list more than once a week it can get tiring to the recipient. You can use their name A few times in the mail body at strategic polaces to make the email more conversational and personal.

Make it Professional
Don’t kill your credibility with bad punctuation. Get someone to proofread your work or hire a writter. QA the SENT email with a test so you see what the list receives.

Keep it Targeted
Keep your emails in the niche your subscriber signed up for. If you start sending stuff that’s outside what they signed up for they start feeling spammed.

Schedule Your Mailings
Create a schedule that’s manage for the subscriber. Whenever i get mails that didn’t advertise as daily I delete without reading or unsubscribe. I Usually delete everyday mails without looking at them unless it’s part of an online course or the subject is compelling.

Make Being on the List Valuable
Email marketing is about building qa relationship not selling with every mail. Communicate useful information in your mailings to the subscribersBe. Cherry-pick some of your free resources and sites that have been usefull to you and give them to your list. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath watter. Provide links back to your site or blog and convert there.

Tell a Story With Your Email Marketing Campagin
Statistics tell us it takes 7 visits to a sales letter before someone buys. Do the above when email marketing mailling list will trust you and your recommendations preselling your promotions.

Recommed Proven Products
The last thing to do is recommennig something you know nothing about just because it looks like an easy sale. The quickest way to loose subscribers is to promote lousy products so make sure the product has value.

Do it Over and Over
Once you’ve gotten a working routine and added your person touches, do it over and over and watch the profits roll in!

Opt-in Email Marketing Pitfalls To Avoid

List building is an important aspect of profitable Internet marketing business. However. there are things you should never do or your subscribers will start clicking the “unsubscribe” link.

Don’t Promote in Every Email

Constantly sending your list sales pitches will get you labeled a spammer. They won’t trust you anymore since all you’re doing is telling them to buy stuff.

Never Leave Out the Unsubscribe or a Contact Email.

Leaving these two things out make you look like a spammer. If you don’t provide an unsubscribe feature then you ARE a spammer. When you are reported as a spammer, you and your business can get into a lot of trouble. You can be reported to ISPs, watch groups, forums in your niche and maybe blacklisted by many internet service providers. You’ll have to watch your subscriber base wither away and you’ll lose future opt-ins.

Your Subscribers aren’t Your “Buddies”

The kind of things that you and your friends send each other via email aren’t the kind of things you send to your list. Also, Controversial issues are to be avoided. Use that time to send useful information or free stuff to your list subscribers. You’re dealing with varity of beliefs that may not be compatible with yours. Stick to the nature of your site and business.

Don’t Rush to Make Money by Promoting Anything You Can Find

Keep the promotions targeted and maintain high value. Check out the product before you put together an email marketing campaign. Read reviews or buy it to evaluate your self. Your list buys because they trust you. Make a few bad recommendations and your business will suffer.

Being Lazy with List Housekeeping Will Cause You Problems Down the Road

Manage the email list with your autoresponders features. Don’t be afraid to invest some money. Success in your list building efforts demand a professional service like Aweber. The price is a drop in the bucket compared to your first successful email marketing campaign.

Always remember these tips to maintain an ethical relationship with your list subscribers and stay within the boundaries of what is allowed in sending mails to an opt-in list.

List Building Tips: Ad Swap Magic = Free Advertising

Advertising makes new list builders cringe because it means they have to spend money. What if I told you there was a free list building advertising meathod that focuses on your niche.

This list building formula can be summed up in two words: Ad Swap.

Getting your message in front of as many eyeballs as possible is necessary for continued growth. Ad-Swapping works if you have a list and your goal is increasing the number of subscribers. This is just one of the many different methods to get traffic to your landing pages so you can build yourself a bigger list. It’s like building a table with many legs. The more legs the surer the foundation and when you loose one leg you have others working for you.

Basically, you trade advertisements with eZine publishers or other people in your niche that have an emil list. The lists need to be of comparable size or else you won’t get any partners. You broadcast the eZine publisher’s advertisement to your mailing list while the eZine publisher sends your ad to his list. Yes, you are actually cross endorsing or cross promoting each others offer to each of your mailing list.

Follow the proven blueprint of giving away a product in your ad.

The tried and true meathod of giving something of value to make money with a website holds true when you advertise in ezines but don’t get stuck on it. Start with an ad tha’ts proven itself to work with the same targeted audience.

You can apply this technique with as many eZine publishers or internet marketer’s list as you can find and build a large email list. Just because you have a list that doesn’t mean sending out one email will get you rich. The secret is in the relationship you have with your list.

Reach out to others like you and both will benefit.

List Building Tips: 3 Keys to Building a Responsive List

I’ve read my share of wild claims like “Send one email and make tons of money…”. If it was that easy everyone would have a massive list and be a millionaire. The most important list building tips I can give is to build a relationship with your subscribers. Once you have a list, one email doesn’t guarantee any anything. The secret isn’t building a list but building a responsive list. Your subscribers have to trust and believe in your opinion. Once they respect your opinion, they willingly check out recommendations.

1) You need to build trust with your customers and the subscribers on your list. It’s easier to build trust when you’re knowledgeable in the niche. If you’re winging it people will figure it out. If you don’t know the subject then outsource.

2) You need to find out what your list subscribers want or need. Create a poll to find out what your list and your market wants. For more general topics, visit forums in your niche and you’ll see the same questions asked all the time. It’s a source for future content. Participate in the forum and let your posts act as a small advertisements for your expertise and it will generate traffic since listbuilding never stops.

Make sure your link to your landing page is in you signature file. The great part about getting subscribers this way is that they respect your opinion.

It’s best to be in a market that you’re knowledgeable about, value and profitability of a product or service are very important. They’ll hit the unsubscribe link if you recommend send to many promotions. Do research into the product or service before you recommend and make sure it’s worth it to you to promote as well.

3) Reach out Surround yourself with people who’ve succeeded at listbuilding. Make friends and reach out on forums or send an email. These are people that have experience and can stear you clear of pot holes. People love to talk about what their good at, their successes and failures. Also, they’re more than willing to help people with lots of passion. While there are many ebooks or products available, there is nothing like getting a first hand account.

List building doesn’t happen overnight. There’s no magic bullet, its work but once you’ve had a few successes you’ll want to do the work!

List Building Tips: Squeeze Page Formula For Getting Instant Opt-Ins

Formally known as the “squeeze page”, the landing or “lead capture page” is the primary tool for list building. This page serves one purpose only and that is to get a persons name and email. It’s highly effective list building technique when properly implemented.

The following are tips in creating a successful landing page that converts visitors into subscribers building your list.

Step 1: Provide a Short Report or Video Series with USABLE information.

Doing this gives someone a reason to give up their name and email. Make sure not to give away crap they won’t unsubscribe immediately after download. Whatever you give away must answer a question or solve a problem. You can offer a special report, free chapters of an e-book sample of your paid product or a short video series to your visitor in exchange for their name and email address.

Step 2: Keep it Short and to the Point.

A landing page is not a sales letter but sales letter technuiques give yo a big boost. Learn to write sales copy and creating landing pages will be a brezze. You can write a headline that states a problem in the lead, then solves that problem on the rest of the page. You then drive your point home with a call to action in your opt-in box. In fact, the headline, opt-in, and a graphic of what you’re offering and bullet pointed benefits should all appear above the fold.

Step 3: Draw attention to the benefits

Your benefits solve the problem presented in the headline. Using bullet is the best way to deliver the benefits. Liberally use free in the benefits without overwhelming the reader.

Step 4: Use two Capture Boxes

Make it’s as easy as possible to give you their name and email address. Once a visitor has scrolled down and finished reading the short letter, they are presented with another opt-in form with a “call to action”. Basically, you TELL them to download the free offer.

Step 5: Other than your Opt-in Form and Disclaimers or Terms of Service, No Outbound are on Your Landing Page.

The visitor has one course of action: get the offer or leave. If you give the visitor ways to leave then you’re shooting yourself in the foot. Forget about promoting something other that your offer. Don’t put Adsense, article links, “for more information” links, blog links or anything else. The visitor has to opt-in for any of that.

Finally, to help build trust you can provide a picture of your self or a hand written signature at the bottom.

SEO IS EASY

Easy in theory but a lot of work goes into it. Content, keywords, back links. That’s all there is to it. To put it another another way it’s on-page and off-page SEO. Publishing a lot of content has it’s challenges, getting your initial set of keywords via research is time consuming and getting back inks is an ongoing process.

Once you gotten over the initial hurdles look at how the rest just falls into place by leveraging all that work and it’s all free.

On-Page SEO: Content and Keywords

You need to have lots of continent with keywords. By that I mean you primary keywords. Long tail phrases are more organic than planned and rarely do people find the blog/site with an exact match. It is worth it to have a set a long tail key phrases to rank number 1 in on Google. A lot of the time it’s usually a combination of words that are not planned but appear in the article title and body

You need those keywords at the “code” level (Title, Description and Keyword META tags). Using METAs for you SEO is no where near as powerful as it used to be but why publish a page or post and leave them out? They help. I’ve been “found” by a combination of keywords in the title and METAs many times. How do you do that with a blog? Use Wordpress and get this plugin http://wp.uberdose.com/2007/03/24/all-in-one-seo-pack/

Off Page SEO: Getting Backlinks

You need back links to your site/blog off of your keywords. This is a lot easier than you think with Web2.0. First your blog post ought to be written with basic SEO in mind. Lets say you’ve got 50 posts on your blog and your comfortable with 20 being good enough to bookmark. You could probably do more but heck, it’s your NAME you putting out there and you want the stuff to be good. By the way, it’s OK to use a pen name.

  • Get someone to do it slowly over time (a couple a week) and you have 20 back links multiplied by the number of major bookmark sites you use.
  • Get about 20 back links per post at 2nd tier bookmarking sites by using www.onlywire.com.
  • Using Wordpress.com gets you linked via technorati.com when you use categories.
  • Comment on blogs in your niche and link to your site off a keyword. Do this a few times a week and it ads up over time.
  • Link to a blog post and you’ll get a track-back link on their blog to yours.
  • Of those 20 posts, pick the best (5-10) and article market them on 10 directories. Thats 50-100 back links. If someone uses them…more back links.

That ought to get you A couple hundred back links, or more, in less than 6 months putting you on the road to a profitable website depending on how diligent you are.

I’ll stop here but you can see how the “problem” of getting backlinks is ridiculous. Ok, I’ll admit that high page ranked one-way links get you the most bang for you buck–you will need bucks to get them tho’…all these other methods get you backlinks AND traffic for FREE

Social bookmarking tip #3: How Not to Get Banned From Social Bookmarking Sites

The bigger sites will ban you if all you do is bookmark your own post. In my “zest” to utilize Web2.0 and social bookmarking I’ve been baned by www.shoutwire.com and www.propeller.com. Getting baned from a big traffic driver can be demoralizing. They didn’t answer any of my emails so I don’t know why I got banned but more importantly I couldn’t bookmark.

How did it happen?

I bookmarked to many of my own posts…actually all I did was bookmark my own posts and in my quest I probably bookmarked the same article twice.

Not reading their terms of service. Some services don’t allow you to post every day. And some have specific requirements for posts. Shoutwire likes newsy post so bookmarking your sales letter is a bad idea. Trust me I know.

How do you make sure you don’t get banned?

Get someone else to bookmark your site’s posts and then bookmark there’s. Don’t bookmark your own posts on these social media sites. To get the most out of this simple procedure you can create a “bookmarking group”. All you do is get some folks together and create an email contacts list then mail the list with your post, what service to use, category, and tags. You of course are on the list as well. Make sure they all install a bookmarking toolbar in their browser for the service you use and you’re done.

Doing this for one service is easy but it gets hard the more services the group uses. You can use automation like Web2Submitter which BMs boatloads of services for you and it comes with a “Buzz Group” that you can submit your posts to and the group will bookmark.

Social media is THE traffic generator for 2008 and beyond. Learn from my mistakes and don’t mess it up. Getting your account back is HARD. Short of creating a new account with a new email and in some cases a new IP address, you won’t get it back and that can be devastating if your just starting out.
