Opt-in Email Marketing Pitfalls To Avoid

List building is an important aspect of profitable Internet marketing business. However. there are things you should never do or your subscribers will start clicking the “unsubscribe” link.

Don’t Promote in Every Email

Constantly sending your list sales pitches will get you labeled a spammer. They won’t trust you anymore since all you’re doing is telling them to buy stuff.

Never Leave Out the Unsubscribe or a Contact Email.

Leaving these two things out make you look like a spammer. If you don’t provide an unsubscribe feature then you ARE a spammer. When you are reported as a spammer, you and your business can get into a lot of trouble. You can be reported to ISPs, watch groups, forums in your niche and maybe blacklisted by many internet service providers. You’ll have to watch your subscriber base wither away and you’ll lose future opt-ins.

Your Subscribers aren’t Your “Buddies”

The kind of things that you and your friends send each other via email aren’t the kind of things you send to your list. Also, Controversial issues are to be avoided. Use that time to send useful information or free stuff to your list subscribers. You’re dealing with varity of beliefs that may not be compatible with yours. Stick to the nature of your site and business.

Don’t Rush to Make Money by Promoting Anything You Can Find

Keep the promotions targeted and maintain high value. Check out the product before you put together an email marketing campaign. Read reviews or buy it to evaluate your self. Your list buys because they trust you. Make a few bad recommendations and your business will suffer.

Being Lazy with List Housekeeping Will Cause You Problems Down the Road

Manage the email list with your autoresponders features. Don’t be afraid to invest some money. Success in your list building efforts demand a professional service like Aweber. The price is a drop in the bucket compared to your first successful email marketing campaign.

List Building Tips: Squeeze Page Formula For Getting Instant Opt-Ins

Formally known as the “squeeze page”, the landing or “lead capture page” is the primary tool for list building. This page serves one purpose only and that is to get a persons name and email. It’s highly effective list building technique when properly implemented.

The following are tips in creating a successful landing page that converts visitors into subscribers building your list.

Step 1: Provide a Short Report or Video Series with USABLE information.

Doing this gives someone a reason to give up their name and email. Make sure not to give away crap they won’t unsubscribe immediately after download. Whatever you give away must answer a question or solve a problem. You can offer a special report, free chapters of an e-book sample of your paid product or a short video series to your visitor in exchange for their name and email address.

Step 2: Keep it Short and to the Point.

A landing page is not a sales letter but sales letter technuiques give yo a big boost. Learn to write sales copy and creating landing pages will be a brezze. You can write a headline that states a problem in the lead, then solves that problem on the rest of the page. You then drive your point home with a call to action in your opt-in box. In fact, the headline, opt-in, and a graphic of what you’re offering and bullet pointed benefits should all appear above the fold.

Step 3: Draw attention to the benefits

Your benefits solve the problem presented in the headline. Using bullet is the best way to deliver the benefits. Liberally use free in the benefits without overwhelming the reader.

Step 4: Use two Capture Boxes

Make it’s as easy as possible to give you their name and email address. Once a visitor has scrolled down and finished reading the short letter, they are presented with another opt-in form with a “call to action”. Basically, you TELL them to download the free offer.

Step 5: Other than your Opt-in Form and Disclaimers or Terms of Service, No Outbound are on Your Landing Page.

The visitor has one course of action: get the offer or leave. If you give the visitor ways to leave then you’re shooting yourself in the foot. Forget about promoting something other that your offer. Don’t put Adsense, article links, “for more information” links, blog links or anything else. The visitor has to opt-in for any of that.

Finally, to help build trust you can provide a picture of your self or a hand written signature at the bottom.

Adsense Tip #1: automatic web surfing sites are bad voodoo for sites with Adsense

I’m always looking to increase traffic to Profitable Websites Bolg. I tried one of these auto-surf companies TrafficPlusHits. It works. I got a 324 refers on the first day! To be honest I’m not sure how effective these things are. Folks get to “see” the site but do they click and read or do they just keep it running to get credits? For someone with a visually compelling site, and some great copy, it could be worth a try. A few days later I got an email from Google Adsense telling me “someone” paid for or used an automated program on my site and it was a violation of Adsense terms of service.
